Web virtualisation

Web virtualization is a unique technology that enables all web content to be captured and accessed, with full functionality, for use whilst disconnected or offline. This means that even when users are not connected they get an identical experience to working online.

All the content they would be able to access in the office is available; all the essential links work, there is complete offline search capability and security permissions and access rights can be emulated.

In addition, if the user needs information that is not stored locally, Geo-Replicator® can automatically connect over any available connection - such as through a 3G, or at a Wi-Fi hotspot - to ensure a seamless working environment.

For Geo-Replicator to create content for offline operation, it first requires access to the online content to record all HTML content, images and associated links. In addition, Geo-Replicator identifies the JavaScript and Server Side Scripts that are processed by the HTML links. In this way, Geo-Replicator works out what other pages are linked as part of the online deployment and correspondingly is able to formulate rules for managing the display and operation of the web content whilst offline.

These rules are formed into a Geo-Replicator Parse Template, using a unique XML template language. Templates are provided with the product for many common web-based enterprise applications, such as Microsoft SharePoint and Oracle. For other applications a degree of customization may be required at the implementation stage.

Once all of the individual pages - and the rules for handling them - have been identified, an exact replica of the information is prepared for delivery to the remote user. There is no need for re-coding or re-development: with Geo-Replicator, it is the very same pages that are used offline as online.

Once this initial content has been downloaded onto the user’s laptop, the user can then work with the Web pages through an industry standard browser. All the functionality that the user would expect online, including search, is available on the laptop, whether it is connected to a network or not.
