About Epsilon Compression

iOra’s patented Epsilon compression technology is our unique and world-leading differentiator in the market. It has been shown to out-perform other industry technologies, such as delta level differencing, by an order of magnitude because it is not limited to comparing pairs of files with the same name.

It ensures that the amount of information that users need to download is minimized without compromising on functionality as it only downloads information which has changed within any form of documentation - and then further compresses that so that the duration of connections (and hence the cost) is also significantly reduced.

Data de-duplication means that information which might take hours to download can usually be transferred in minutes. When this is multiplied across the hundreds of users and over a whole year, the impact is considerable.

Epsilon provides byte level differencing, supported by pattern matching. Where it improves on its competitors is that it does not simply work within a single file, web page or document, but instead compresses across an entire Geo-Replicator® data set.

For example, if a new presentation is published in a portal, traditional differencing techniques would have nothing to compare the presentation against. With Epsilon Compression, the presentation is compared against all the other content already held in the existing Geo-Replicator publication, regardless of file or data type. Typically this would mean that Epsilon would find that over 95% of the content of a new presentation already exists in other presentations or documents, and would reduce, for example, a 10 megabyte presentation to below 500 kilobytes. Then, using Epsilon’s byte level compression algorithms, the data is compressed further, reducing the 500 kilobytes in the example to less than 200 kilobytes, giving an overall compression ratio of over 98%. On a slow network this data de-duplication translates to over 100 times faster transfers.
