A lot is being talked about at the moment about the huge savings to be had from organizations moving to Cloud based computing – and, in particular, how Microsoft SharePoint 2010 is well positioned to take advantage of the new facilities which are being widely rolled out.
Of course, going to Cloud computing for even one major system in a corporation needs a lot of planning and risk analysis.
One of the risks that seems to have been under-emphasized so far is – what happens when your connection to the Cloud fails? This may be less of a risk in highly industrialized areas of the world, but may well be highly risky in places where electricity supply is not constant or telecommunications are unreliable.
I believe there will always be a need for some level of Continuity of Operation facility, and we will continue to take this into account in our product development of Geo-Replicator.
